Program Description

Event Details

The Blue Ridge Tunnel beneath Rockfish Gap was an engineering marvel of the mid-19th century.  With the opening of the tunnel as a rail trail in 2020 it's become a popular destination for outdoor recreation. Carving out the tunnel was an epic human story, but the rocks exposed in and near the tunnel provide an unparalleled look into deep time extending back hundreds of millions of years. Augusta County Historical Society, William & Mary Alumni Association, and WPL host a team of William & Mary geologists for a short talk as they explore the geoheritage of the Blue Ridge and premier a new film focused on the tunnels geological story. Space is limited, so please sign up early to reserve your spot.
